This means that the characters don’t go through their longer conversations, since they’ve already had them, and you little fresh dialogue here and there. Fortunately, the brothers and the other characters all remember that you’ve been through this before. Will you try and race a gloomy grim reaper for your life, or hold back and see what lurks on the other side? Will you follow a rock monster as it searches out a flower, or take the opportunity to sneak back to the familiar comfort of your own boat? Each narrative path is filled with the strange and the fantastic, a miniature folktale in and of itself.Įach adventure branches at multiple points, so you’ll be seeing parts of the story several times, especially the earliest bits and the ending scene. Burly Men at Sea is not a game about getting from point A to point B, but rather a stroll through a fantastic world where the impossible lurks just beyond the edge of the scenery.Īs the brother’s story unfolds, the decisions you make at certain junctions will direct the course of their adventure. This highly stylized world reacts to your touch, and each area practically begs to be lingered upon, prodded, and fully explored. Cuddle a crab, poke a puffin, manhandle a moose, tickle a tree, and jiggle a jellyfish. The entire game is delightful, and so overflowing with childlike charm that you can’t help but get lost in it… and you should take the time to poke around at the background. It’s a little subtle and sparsely used, but does wonders to pull you into the world of the Brothers Beard. Adding to the experience is the brilliant integration of the Joy-Con rumble feature. The mechanics are incredibly simple, you literally just drag the background and poke the objects and animals you find there, but that’s not a bad thing due to how how immersive the while thing is. While it’s difficult to describe, it’s easy to understand in action, as you can see in the video in the header.īurly Men at Sea is almost more of an experience than it is a game. Instead, you use your finger to drag the scenery to the side, allowing the background to extend that direction, and the brothers naturally move to inhabit the now-available space. This swipe-based game is perfectly suited to the touch screen of the Nintendo Switch, and, interestingly, with one singular exception, you never actually control the brothers themselves. The fantastical events the brothers experience are told with a bit of fairy tale narration, with a singsong-y tone similar to that of a children’s book. The artwork is breathtakingly lovely, simple and whimsical, and the gameplay settles somewhere between a visual novel and a choose your own adventure book. It tells the story of the brothers Beard, Brave Beard, Steady Beard, and Hasty Beard, who find a blank map and set off in their beloved boat in search of adventure. The good folks at Brain&Brain have perfected the art of saying more with less, and crafted a magical, charming folktale which is heavily inspired by Scandinavian mythology.īurly Men at Sea does not involve pirating, drinking, or other ‘manly’ activities which you might expect given the game’s title. There’s always the temptation to add more, but in doing so, you lose the elegance of simplicity. It’s hard to paint a picture with as few shapes as possible, and it’s difficult to convey a feeling as concisely as possible.

Social media management is rarely done by people with a design background, so any app has to cater to regular people. Is this app easy enough for anyone to use? Tools like Photoshop and Illustrator (which I love) are incredible in the right hands, and unusable in the wrong ones. I generally focused on the overall ease of use and professional offerings of each app, but I also had some key criteria that each app needed to meet to be included on this list: I also created at least two test posts using the templates (with most of the favorites, even more). To test each app, I spent a significant amount of time browsing hundreds of themes to get a feel for the quality of each one. Even if something is free, I won't recommend it if it's awful. I didn't expect these free social media post makers to eclipse it, but they had to offer a great service. I've relied on Adobe Photoshop for over a decade, and it sets a high bar for paid products. I'll also flag what you get if you're prepared to pay a few dollars a month-some of these options have great value paid plans. Granted, some of these are more limited free plans of premium products, but they're all up to the job of creating awesome images for your social media marketing channels. I've considered close to 40 free graphic design apps and found five great, free resources. And not the ones you generally need to make social media graphics. What makes graphic design apps free isn't necessarily a lack of quality, but a lack of some powerful design features. Being able to repurpose the posts you've already made is a huge time-saver.Īnd you don't need to pay huge prices to get incredible results. Then, all you have to do is mix and match things with your own brand elements to have something unique and powerful. This is why a good graphic design app is so crucial: instead of starting from scratch each time, you have a range of great templates and design resources (like stock images, icons, shapes, and text styles) ready to go. It's more important that you get your content out into the world where people can actually see it than you pore over every pixel to get things perfect. Social media posts have a very short lifecycle, so you shouldn't spend hours creating them. For more details on our process, read the full rundown of how we select apps to feature on the Zapier blog. We're never paid for placement in our articles from any app or for links to any site-we value the trust readers put in us to offer authentic evaluations of the categories and apps we review. We spend dozens of hours researching and testing apps, using each app as it's intended to be used and evaluating it against the criteria we set for the category. All of our best apps roundups are written by humans who've spent much of their careers using, testing, and writing about software. So seeing as we are all about DJ gear, it does seem like a rather good idea to have a similar thing on DJWORX. One such thing is the “show us your setup” thread, which gives readers the option to essentially get their metaphorical DJ genitalia out for all to see in a blaze of gear lust glory. The review recording was live no editing and audio quality from the Behringer and Pioneer is equal in comparison. While we will almost certainly will never be lumbered with the ball and chain that is a forum, they do have the occasional redeeming feature in among the circular and spiralling this vs that discussions, flame wars and the odd death threat. If your not utilizing the send and return with TSR cabling then the unit performs like crap. I never heard of anyone complaining about sound quality issue with the EFX500. I know guys who preferred the 500 over the 1000 in there setups because of the Isolator is on the 500 and not the 1000. The reality of it all it's not a fair comparison, any quality dedicated EFX units should out perform any combo mixer/efx system. The effects on the Behringer or great clear uncluttered, but if you cut the audio the effects stop. How are the effects quality on the mixer in comparison to the EFX? Knowing that the EFX500 was never great quality (even when it was new out) and the behringer is much newer.Īlso, on the effects again, when you disengage the effect is it like a bypass or does it gradually fade out (for example with a reverb the tail would gradually fade away rather than cut off)Ĩ min comparison video referencing the Echo Effects between the Behringer and Pioneer. I'm looking for some Underground, Deep House etc to mix. The two crates of vinyl I have with tunes from the 80's and 90's ain't helping the cause. Now the challenge will be to find vinyl in my area, I'm 20 minutes from NY, I we had a spot in New Jersey, the N.E. But at human levels you do have full kill. I turned the high's mid's and low's to kill, set the gains and master at the 12 o’clock position you have full kill, no sound, but when I turned the gains and master past 3 o’clock to max, I heard audio from my speakers the audio was faint. Not really a CON but an observation: The POTS are plastic, but so are the POTS on my Pioneer EFX500, and the mixer EQ’s are not full kill as advertised. NOX404 have aux in and out, line/usb for audio recording and playback from your pc and phono select of course, effects are assignable with TAP and the mixer has a send and return TRS for an external effects processor so I can use my EFX500, which lead me to choose the NOX404 over big sister A&H XONE22. Along with the Infinium optical crossfader with reverse and separate X,Y curve adjust, with a 1mm cut in, and tension adjust you will be crab scratching in no time. I purchased the mixer not just for the price alone but the features, channel faders very smooth and reversible, with separate curve adjust, you can also pan left to right the up faders as well. Total $216 and change with taxes and free shipping. I lucked up GC had the 15% discounts and with the price of the mixer 229. Anyway to my review, NOX404, if you looking for an entry level scratch mixer or otherwise look no further. I will first admit, I am a little bias towards Behringer products, I have their Eurolive 208B’s and the 215B’s powered speakers and extremely satisfied for their speakers quality and sound. Other than those two gripes, though, platforming was really fun - moreso than in some other games in recent memory. Collision detection is sometimes off, and I kept slipping off ledges I should have been able to stand on or mantle up to. detail0 blur0 resolution640480 blood0 numplayers2 decals0 trilinear0 music0. If you really want to be thorough, open up Lugaru's config.txt file in the Data folder and set. Turn down the resolution to 640x480, turn off the blood, decals, etc. Turner consistently feels like he’s floating when trying to jump around, and while it feels pretty amazing to be able to jump as high as he does, the hang time he has while he’s up there becomes a little ponderous when you’re trying to reach a certain ledge for the fifth time. Make sure it is at lowest detail in the options setting. The fight sequences are broken up by fun, tough platforming missions, but even those get repetitive after a while. You get a cutscene with dialogue, and the next mission loads. The downside to these small, bite-size missions is that they tend to become formulaic: go here, fight some rabbits or rats or dogs, and once you kill or knock out the last one, music plays, and the mission ends. They’re also short enough that even a gamer dad like me can slip in some ass-kicking before having to rush off to put out a fire (usually not literally). The story is compelling enough that I kept playing through the missions despite myself, and the missions themselves are short enough that you don’t notice the time slipping away. I made the mistake of playing Lugaru second, and I feel the Overgrowth campaign would have been that much better with some background. Theres lots of running, jumping, flipping, rolling, punching, kicking, and countering, and very lethal weapons on top of that. The Lugaru campaign is shorter, and admittedly slightly less polished, but it gives some great story beats and background on Turner, the main rabbit for both campaigns. Overgrowth takes place in the savage world of Lugaru where rabbits, wolves and other animals are forced to use paws, claws and medieval weaponry to engage. And while yes, I did run around as an awesome ninja bunny and do ninja stuff - climbing all over the place, kicking other bunnies in the face, throwing daggers, and swinging swords - what I didn’t expect out of Wolfire Games’ action-adventure was a heartfelt story about loss, revenge, and what a soldier comes home to after a horrendous war.īefore I begin in earnest, I highly recommend 1) you get this game, and 2) you play its predecessor, Lugaru‘s, campaign before the longer Overgrowth campaign. Awesome, I thought, a fun indie game where I can run around as a bunny and do ninja stuff. When I was asked to review Overgrowth, it was pitched to me as a platformer and fighting game, with ninja bunnies. Getting support from your fellow writers.
